2011 Organic Rajasthani Henna

I always get excited this time of year, waiting for the freshest crop to come in. Well, it's heeeere! I am really thrilled to have this latest Organic Rajasthani because I have been working with the processor to get a better sift, and WOW, this is the finest sift I've EVER, in 15 years of playing around with henna, had.  It's so fine that the paste looks almost like melted chocolate (well if chocolate were green!) and it's super creamy. If you like Jamila, you'll love this stuff. It's like BUTTAH. I'm not kidding! Get out your tiniest cones and smallest j-bottle tips and forget about straining your paste.

Notes from the field:, this 2011 crop isn't as stringy as some previous years so if you like that snotty goodness you might want to mix your paste with a bit of Tamarind, or that goo that comes from Okra, or with an extra-sticky molasses. However, tests with line draping still yielded long unbroken lines. I am still testing to see what the optimal dye release time is. It's seeming a little slower than last year's crop, but that could also be because the days are getting cooler here.

About the photo: Henna paste was mixed with water, sugar, and essential oils, and was allowed to rest for 4 hours at room temperature.
The paste was left on the skin for just one hour!  I am looking forward to doing a proper test to see how dark it can really go. Wow!

This product is USDA Certified Organic, and also EcoCert (a European standard) certified.

I used this henna on my hair a few months ago and it gave me the most beautiful color - super close to my original color, but richer and more vibrant. My hair has never been softer and the color is still going strong. I did manage to get it on my hands and arms which left them a bright orange color for about a month, but it was only on my skin for a minute or so, so I'm sure if you were intentionally using it on your skin the color would be much much darker. I'm definitely buying more for future uses!
